A new landmark case includes Employer Pension Contributions when awarding compensation in Employment Tribunal
For the first time the amount of compensation awarded to an employee in the Employment Appeal Tribunal has included not just wages, but has also included the employer’s pension contribution.
In the case of University of Sunderland v Drossou, the University appealed against this decision to the Employment Appeal Tribunal, however the Employment Appeal Tribunal upheld its decision to take into account the University’s pension contributions into the pension fund when calculating the amount of a week’s pay. This may in future affect statutory redundancy payment. For more information on this case click here.
