CV Writing Guidance
When it comes to writing a CV, especially if it has been some time since the last time you did so it can be difficult to know where to start. Below are some simple steps you can follow to get you started:-
Make it ‘Easy on the Eye’
We can assume most hiring managers will spend approximately 30 seconds scanning your CV. The layout you choose needs to be clear and concise; the headlines of your career, qualifications and achievements need to be evident so the hiring manager doesn’t have to search for relevant information.
When you are applying for a job you could be up against hundreds of other candidates so your CV needs to stand out from the crowd. You need to show a prospective employer not just what skills and experience you have but what you have achieved. Show how you have achieved targets, completed projects or how you have had a positive effect on the bottom line.
Check and check again!
Once a CV is in front of a potential employer there is nothing you can do to prepare the damage of a CV containing mistakes. It is easily done so always double check not just the spelling and grammar but that the dates of employment and all your personal contact details are correct. Always ask someone to proof read it for you.
Make it relevant
It is worth spending the time to tailor the content of your CV for each specific role you are applying for, highlighting relevant experience and skills you have which meet the details of the job description.
