EU Settlement Scheme – 30th June 2021 Deadline
As we near the 30th June 2021 deadline for applications under the EU Settlement Scheme, European nationals and their family members who first arrived in the UK by 31st December 2020 must apply for pre-settled or settled status to continue to live and work in the UK.
With free movement under EU law having ended on 31st December 2020, the end of June sees the end of the six-month grace period afforded to EEA and Swiss nationals.
If you have not already done so, with two weeks remaining until the deadline, Employers should encourage their European workforce to apply under the Scheme.
Key EU Settlement Scheme Considerations:
- Individuals who have been “continuously resident” in the UK for at least five years should be eligible for settled status.
- Individuals who have been in the UK for less than five years should be granted pre-settled status.
- If employees do not apply by the deadline, it is likely they will be in the UK illegally and, as an Employer, you may not be able to continue to employ them.
- Employers should also encourage European nationals and family members to inform them once they have been granted settled or pre-settled status and make a note of when pre-settled status expires.
